Eight new faces through the door as Cefn Druids assemble squad for new season

Cefn Druids have recruited a host of new players ahead of the 2020/21 Cymru Premier campaign.

Chris Azimall, Josh Green, Niall Flint and Sam Phillips have all joined the Ancients in preparation of the season.

Ben Barratt, Jacob Wise and Kieran Smith, have also joined the Ancients, with the trio making the step up from the lower leagues of Welsh football.

Along with former New Saints forward Alex Darlington, there have been eight new faces through the door at The Rock.

Commenting on the signings, assistant manager Jayson Starkey said: “We want to keep the ball on the floor, and although sometimes we know we will have to kick it long, we want the players to have other options available.

“It’s important to try and keep the players believing in the process and for them to not be knocked if they make a mistake.

“It’s a style of football we want to play and the signing of Alex Darlington, for example, was done because of that style.”

Two of their newest signings come with experience of playing in the Welsh top flight.

Midfielder Niall Flint moves from Cymru Premier rivals Newtown, whilst ex-Robin man Phillips returns to Wales after a spell with CD Almuñécar City.

Flint, 23, made 20 appearances for the Robins last season, scoring two goals.

Forward Sam Phillips, 21, spent a season-and-a-half with Newtown, making 27 appearances, scoring a solitary goal against Llanelli in September 2018.

Centre-back Ben Barratt was signed from Cymru North outfit Buckley Town, whilst

Defender Jacob Wise moves from Wrexham League winners Holywell Town.

Midfielder Josh Green, formerly of Chester and Fleetwood Town is another new addition.

Green, 25, began his career at Shrewsbury Town, has played for other clubs such as Macclesfield, Market Drayton, Stalybridge Celtic and Stafford Rangers.
