Penybont claimed their first win of the season as they defeated Cardiff Metropolitan 1-0 at Cyncoed Campus.
Man-of-the-match Kostya Georgievsky scored on the hour mark to give the away side the victory.
The Archers not only suffered defeat but saw both Chris Baker, Dylan Rees and Harry Owen withdrawn for injuries in what is already an injury-ravaged squad.
Rhys Griffiths’ side move up to tenth as a result of their victory and are level on points with tonight’s opponents.
Both sides began the game at a high tempo with their tricky players being utilised for their trickery and pace.
In the first chance of the match, summer signing Ben Ahmun attempted an effort from outside the box but his dipped effort was saved by Alex Lang.
A quick move came from Lang’s save as Met broke on the counter-attack but Rhydian Morgan sliced his volley wide.
Referee Bryn Markham-Jones wasn’t afraid to brandish yellow cards either as Craig Davies, Dylan Rees and Ismail Yakubu were all booked for rash challenges.
Penybont were pressing the Met defence when they held possession as they tried to force a mistake.
They had another opportunity as full-back Connor Davies found Ahmun with a well-delivered cross but the former Mellons man headed over.
The quick flowing action was brought to a pause when Chris Baker received lengthy treatment, resulting in 12-minutes of additional time.
In the last meaningful chance of the half, Oliver Dalton forced a save from Lang from a free-kick.
Penybont had created the most opportunities after Baker’s injury but were unable to create a breakthrough.
Emerging from the dressing room, Kostya Georgievsky was looking a handful for Me defenders.
The momentum was with Penybont as Dalton had a second opportunity for a goal as his shot cannoned off the post.
As the game reached the final thirty minutes, the goal came and it was from the away side.
Ex Archer Mael Davies in a one-on-one had a shot blocked but a scramble in the box was eventually finished by Georgievsky who opened his account for the season.
Georgievsky’s goal inspired him as he continued to create difficult situations for Met’s backline.
Penybont laid claims for a second goal as Georgievsky flicked on Mael Davies’ cross onto the post but the ball didn’t cross in the eyes of the referee.
Met’s pursuit of an equaliser almost proved successful from a set piece but Eliot Evans’ free-kick glanced wide of the target.
Their task of finding an equaliser was made even harder when substitute Harry Owen had to withdraw himself from the match after pulling up.
Penybont were able to see out the match as they played the ball into the corner and ground out for the victory.
