The New Saints 2-0 Newtown: Ebbe brace ensures perfect start for Saints

The New Saints keep their 100% record after a 2-0 victory against Newtown.

A brace from Dean Ebbe was enough to see Scott Ruscoe’s side get the three points.

Leo Smith had the first chance of the game in the third minute when Louis Robles crossed the ball in and Smith headed at goal, but David Jones saved easily for the Robins.

A few minutes later Kwame Boateng ran into the Robins box, however the referee gave a handball against the right back as he went in on goal.

A couple of minutes later Jordan Evans had a shot for the Robins, but it was blocked by the home side.

In the 17th minute Dean Ebbe had a chance as Chris Marriott crossed the ball in and the striker headed the ball at goal, though Jones collected the ball comfortably for Newtown.

Moments after Astles had a header at goal as the away side managed to block the ball on the line to keep the score level.

In the 22nd minute Leo Smith had a shot from range, but Jones got the ball in his gloves with no problems.

Five minutes later the Robins ran through on goal in the form of Tyrone Ofori, only for the linesman put his flag up for offside.

A minute later the Saints were having a go up the other end again when Tom Holland had a shot from just outside the penalty area, though the ball just went over the crossbar.

Jack Kelly crossed the ball into the box for Chris Hughes side in the 33rd minute, however Paul Harrison caught the ball for TNS for the game to remain in a deadlock.

At the end of the half the ball was crossed into Ryan Astles, but the defender could only hit the side netting for Scott Ruscoe’s side.

Into the second half and TNS found a goal in the form of Ebbe as Smith crossed the ball into the box with the Irish striker heading the ball into the back of the net to put the Park Hall side 1-0 up.

In the 53rd minute the Saints were on the attack once again as Louis Robles dribbled the ball and had a shot just outside the box, however the opportunity just curled wide of the goal.

Seven minutes later Dean Ebbe got his second of the game as the Robins gave the ball straight to the number seven and the striker then ran around Jones to score into an empty net.

In the 82nd minute Mullan got on the end of a through ball and shot for Scott Ruscoe’s side inside the 18-yard area, however Jones stood up to it and made a great save.

A couple of minutes later Ebbe had an opportunity for his hat trick, only for the shot to go wide for a throw in.

The New Saints will now face Penybont away on Saturday.

Newtown meanwhile play Barry Town at Latham Park on the same day.
