What we learned from The New Saints’ dispatching of Penybont in Cymru Premier

The New Saints extended their winning run with a convincing 4-0 win over Penybont at the SDM Glass Stadium this afternoon.

Louis Robles and Greg Draper both netted twice for the Saints on their way to picking up all three points from their trip to Bridgend.

This is what we learned from the game today.

Robles and Draper work well as a pair

Both Robles and Draper netted braces in the game, however – not only are they both deadly finishers – they also provide well for each other.

Their link-up play was exceptional throughout the 90 minutes.

Draper selflessly set up his strike partner for Robles’ second when the former could have gone alone, but decided to square the ball to the latter for a trouble-free finish.

Although the pair vary in playing styles, they compliment each other brilliantly.

Despite losing by four goals, Penybont didn’t play particularly poorly today.

The hosts had lengthy spells of possession and were unlucky not to create clear-cut chances on some occasions.

Playing against The New Saints – in the form they are in right now – was always going to be difficult, and manager Rhys Griffiths can certainly take a few positives away from the game.

Cieslewicz turns provider

Adrian Cieslewicz’s creativity was a big plus for the visitors, and his teammates certainly benefitted from his vision and quality.

The ex-Wrexham man assisted twice as he set up a goal for each scorer.

The winger played Robles through for TNS’s first, before cleverly picking out Draper in space for their fourth.

Discipline an issue for Bont?

Penybont were reduced to nine men in the dying moments as Kostya Georgievsky and Nathan Wood both picked up two yellow cards.

Both sides were involved in a pushing-affair which saw each team have two players booked.

Kane Owen has also just come back from a three-game suspension, which may lead to people wondering why Penybont are penalised so often.

However, the sending off of the pair didn’t change the game in any way; the Saints had already won the game at the point of Wood’s dismissal.
