Barry Town United 0-0 Connah’s Quay: Nomads earn point despite early red card

A controversial affair between Barry Town and Connah’s Quay Nomads ended in a stalemate at Jenner Park.

The Nomads were reduced to ten-men in the early stages, when John Disney was harshly sent off for holding back Curtis Jemmett-Hutson.

Barry Town thought they had taken the lead early in the second half, as Kyle Patten’s strike was ruled out for an adjudged foul on Connah’s Quay goalkeeper Lewis Brass.

The Linnets also ended the game with 10-men, as David Cotterill was shown a red card for a kick-out in the latter stages of the game.

In a tight, competitive contest between two sides in the top three of the Cymru Premier table, neither side could find a winning goal.

The game sparked to life in just the second minute, when defender John Disney was harshly sent off with a straight red card for Connah’s Quay.

Jemmett-Hutson looked to get in-behind the Nomads defence and Disney was adjudged to have restricted the Linnets’ attacker.

Despite being down to 10-men, the first chance of the game fell to the visitors, as Aron Williams’ cross was met by Craig Curran, whose header at goal was saved by Mike Lewis.

Lewis was again called into action when Sameron Dool delivered a dangerous cross into the Linnets’ box, forcing the goalkeeper to tip over the bar.

Barry Town had a chance of their own, as Jordan Cotterill had a positive, direct run into the Nomads’ box and fired an effort at goal, which was saved well by Brass.

Chesterfield’s side appealed for a penalty in the 34th minute, as new-signing Sam Bowen went down under the adjudged fair challenge of Kris Owens.

The best chance of the first half fell to the Linnets, when Curtis Jemmett-Hutson got in-behind the visitors’ defence, but his strike from the right side of the box flew over the bar.

Much like the first half, the second period opened with huge controversy, as Kyle Patten appeared to have given Barry Town the lead.

Patten’s strike from inside the box was disallowed, as the Connah’s Quay goalkeeper was adjudged to have been fouled in the build-up.

The Nomads then went close to breaking the deadlock, as Dool’s cross was headed by Aeron Edwards, into the path of Curran, whose effort at goal was blocked heroically by Clayton Green.

Barry Town had a huge chance to take the lead in the 61st minute, as Evan Press’ cross from the left picked out Jordan Cotterill, whose free header at goal was straight at Brass.

Priestley Farquharson then went close for the Nomads, heading onto the roof of the net from Jay Owen’s free-kick delivery.

Despite both sides pressing to break the deadlock, neither could create a clear-cut chance to claim the three points.

There was late controversy however, as substitute David Cotterill was sent off for Barry Town for a kick-out in the dying minutes of the game.

After a goalless draw at Jenner Park, Andy Morrison’s Nomads play host to Newtown in their next fixture, while Barry Town face a trip to Cefn Druids.
