Mini-league set up by Ardal League clubs to combat lack of competitive match action
A mini-league has been set up by a number of South Walian clubs in the absence of competitive football.
Six teams from the Ardal League South East have founded a tournament which will run from November to February, with home and away fixtures.
Abergavenny Town, Abertillery Bluebirds, Caldicot Town, Croesyceiliog and Goytre are all participating in the tournament as they await the return for competitive football.
Though not an officially recognised tournament, it will provide a ‘competitive edge’ for teams who haven’t played league fixtures since March, and are compliant with the guidelines of the FAW’s ‘Return to Play’ protocol.
Currently, the Cymru Premier and the Welsh Premier Women’s League are the only senior leagues which are permitted to play.
However, the FAW have submitted an application to Sport Wales to allow ‘elite’ status for the men’s second and third tiers.
Games, however, would remain behind closed doors unless a change in the rules was announced by the Welsh Government.
