Key talking points as Penybont put six past Caernarfon

Rhys Griffiths’ free-scoring Penybont side thrashed Huw Griffiths’ defensively poor Caernarfon Town 6-0.

Goals from Kostya Georgievsky, Lewis Harling, Ben Ahmun and Ian Traylor gave the Bridgend side their fifth win of the season as they hope to finish phase one in the top-six.

The loss for the visitors means they are five points off sixth-placed Haverfordwest, although the Canaries have a game in hand.

High-flying Georgievsky

Kostya Georgievsky was exceptional, scoring two and assisting one.

The winger has been somewhat quiet for his standards of late.

Not only was he amongst the goals, his overall attacking output massively helped his side.

French kept score down

Despite conceding six goals, Caernarfon’s goalkeeper Tyler French can take positives from the game.

Stepping in for first-choice Josh Tibbetts, French was unlucky with Penybont’s first goal, where he exceptionally saved the initial flicked-on attempt but was unable to save the second.

The majority of the goals came from defensive mistakes and, had it not been for French often saving massive chances, the deficit may have been greater.

Harling covered every blade of grass

Lewis Harling, like Georgievsky, also scored a brace and assisted once.

His high energy and overall work-rate helped his side as he often forced mistakes out of the opposition defence when pressing.

The perfectly-weighted through ball he played for Georgievsky allowed the winger to pick his corner for his second.

Harling’s second goal showcased just how composed he was as he calmly brought the ball down and finished with a weak-footed volley.

Bont defensively sound

A changed back four, with midfielders Mael Davies and Kane Owen replacing regular full backs Oliver Dalton and Connor Davies, put in a massively assured performance.

Caernarfon only had one clear-cut chance with Jack Kenny came close to equalising when he was played through before firing over in the first half.

Despite cagey performances in recent weeks, summer signing Ismail Yakubu didn’t put a foot wrong defensively all game.
