Llantwit Major beat Llanelli Town 2-1 at Stebonheath Park to progress to the next round of the Nathaniel MG Cup.

Josh Jones added to Cullen Kinsella’s first-half goal as the Major bounced back from Ricky Kerr’s opener for Llanelli to secure their place in the next round.

The exit from the Cup means a defeat for Andy Legg, who was making his second managerial debut for the Reds, ten years on from his first spell at the club.

Kerr looked to have given Legg a perfect start when he scored on his debut to put Llanelli ahead. Liam Samuel crossed in beautifully at the back post for Kerr to header home.

The visitors should have got back on level terms as Kinsella was found by Anthony Rawlings but he skewed his effort from close range.

Kinsella was causing huge problems for the Llanelli defence early on and had huge success on the right hand side.

An example of this is when he dribbled past three players to shoot from a tight angle, hitting the post with his effort.

The game started to open up as both teams were battling in midfield and credit to the referee letting a lot go to let the game breath benefited both teams.

Llantwit were causing Llanelli a number of problems as they looked to make their pressure content. but the Reds cleared two shots off the line to preserve their lead.

Major got their deserved breakthrough when this time Rawlings found space on the right side found Kinsella who slotted passed the Llanelli goalkeeper to level the score.

The away side pushed early in the second-half and had their rewards. After work in the midfield, Josh Jones took a deflected shot from outside the box and it ended up rustling into the back of the net.

Major should have furthered their advantage as Jones found himself in a one-on-one but Luke Millard came out on top.

Kinsella was unfortunate not to add to his tally after a beautiful dummy ball from Anthony Rawlings found him but he shot wide.

The game got more tactical as both teams were trying to stop each other breaking away as the referee found himself going into his notebook for a number of cynical challenges.

Llanelli pushed forward in stoppage time but were fruitless in their efforts for an equaliser as Major grounded out for victory.
