Bangor City 3-0 Gresford Athletic: Mello brace inspires Citizens victory in first round.

Bangor City proved too much for Gresford Athletic as they defeated them 2-0 at the Sudaires Stadium.

Enzio Zicarelli put the Citizens ahead before a brace from Giacomo Mello ensured their a spot in the next round of the Nathaniel MG Cup.

Bangor and Gresford were playing their first competitive match for over nine months and both had new managers in the dugouts.

Hugo Colace, who was a player at Bangor last season, tastes victory in his first match, meanwhile it’s a losing start for Eddie Maurice-Jones on his return to the club.

Zicarelli’s opener came after only 17 minutes, as Alex Boss played an inch perfect cross to the forward, who made no mistake in volleying home past Ben Jones.

Mello proved to be the dominant player in midfield, as everything went through him, and he controlled the game. His passing created a number of opportunities for the Citizens, but they couldn’t convert.

The Italian was finally awarded for his dominance, as Mello struck a superb long range shot into the back of the net. An absolutely wonderful strike from Bangor’s number 28, as they went into the half with a two goal lead.

It didn’t take long for the Citizens to find the back of the net in the second half, as they added a third just after the break. Mello found himself with the ball in the box, and slotted home into the bottom right corner of the net.

City thought that they had a fourth, only for Destefanis’ goal to be disallowed for offside.
