Porthmadog home ground submerged as Storm Christoph causes havoc in the north of Wales
Porthmadog have been rocked after their home ground was victims of severe flooding as a result of Storm Christoph.
Y Traeth is under water and resembles a lake after it was among the areas in the county to be hit by torrential rain.
On his way to assess the damage, club chairman Phil Jones was unable to access the ground via the bypass, due to the metre deep water.
Firstly, the club published a series of photos yesterday, highlighting the damage that the rain did to their home pitch.
Evidencing the devastation, CPD Porthmadog added this caption: “After months of hard work by volunteers, it is sad to see all the damage after the latest flood – the worst in living memory!”
In a short video published on the clubs social media feed, chairman Phil Jones said: “It’s not looking good, it’s not looking good I’m afraid.”
Porthmadog suffered flooding problems before when in 2015, the ground was inundated with water from Storm Desmond.
It prompted Plaid Cymru MP Liz Saville-Roberts to call for a multi-agency review into the drainage and flood defence in Porthmadog.
The weather woes come on top of some difficulties with the 2020/21 season unlikely to start for Ardal Leagues, owing to the COVID-19 pandemic.
In reaction to the damage, Porthmadog have set up a JustGiving page which aims to help cover the costs of the damage.
