Liverpool have rejected a loan bid from Southampton for Neco Williams, according to reports.
Ralph Hasenhüttl’s side were keen on bringing in defensive reinforcements and identified Williams as a potential target on Deadline Day.
Sky Sports report that the Saints were unsuccessful in their pursuit of the Wales international. He will remain at Anfield to battle for a first-team spot.
Liverpool reportedly see Williams as an important backup to Trent Alexander-Arnold, hence why they have rejected Southampton’s advances.
Williams has featured four times in the Premier League for the Reds this season, as well as three outings in the Champions League.
In September 2020, Williams made his senior debut for Wales and later scored in just his second cap against Bulgaria.
Williams already has six caps for the national team to his name following a consecutive run of games in the Nations League.
Before Williams made his first appearance for Wales, he had won a Premier League medal, after featuring in six games.
He also played in four of Liverpool’s FA Cup fixtures last season.
