Sophie Ingle commits to two-year deal with Chelsea
Wales captain Sophie Ingle has put pen to paper for a new two-year deal with Chelsea, that will see her stay at Kingsmeadow until 2023.
Ingle re-joined the Blues in 2018, after stints with Bristol City and Liverpool, having previously played for Chelsea in 2012 and 2013.
In September 2020, Ingle became the third Welsh centurion, winning her 100th cap for Wales against Norway during the 2021 Women’s Euros qualifiers.
She repeated that feat for her club last month, making her 100th appearance as a substitute against Tottenham.
Since returning to West London, the Llandough native has been very successful, winning the Women’s Super League, the Continental League Cup and the Women’s Community Shield.
Speaking to Chelsea’s official website, Ingle said: “It was nice that the club wanted to keep me on for another two years, I’m really excited and looking forward to the next two years.
“Our overall aim, and it has been for the past few years, is the Champions League. That’s the main one this club wants to win and we all want to win”
“Since Emma (Hayes) has come in, we’ve been pushing and pushing, year by year to progress this team and she’s done that with the signings she’s made.”
Chelsea recently broke the WSL record for longest unbeaten run, stretching 33 games, before losing to Brighton.
In the current campaign, Ingle has made 13 WSL appearances for Chelsea, as well as reaching the Continental Cup Final with Emma Hayes’ side.
The Welsh skipper was also present in Chelsea’s victories over Benfica in the UEFA Women’s Champions League.
Following Chelsea’s game at Bristol City on Sunday, Ingle will join up with the rest of the Welsh squad for a five-day training camp at the Vale Resort, as they begin their preparations for the 2023 World Cup qualifiers in September.
