Rachel Rowe pens new three year contract at Reading
Wales international Rachel Rowe has signed a new three-year deal with Reading extending her stay at the club until 2024.
Rowe has become a crucial player for Kelly Chambers’ side this season, netting four goals making her the side’s joint top-goal scorer.
A new contract comes after scoring three in her last four games, including a cracker against Bristol City at Ashton Gate.
She told Elite football group: “I’m very happy to have put pen to paper and to continue climbing the mountain with Reading Football club. I’ve developed so much as a player and person whilst being here.
“I’m excited to see the further development, learning and growth that has to come over the next 3 years.”
Her manager Chamber’s, who signed Rowe from six years ago, told the clubs official website: “I am delighted that Rowey has committed her future to Reading. She is a player that has developed so much over the years, on and off the pitch.
“Even though she has had an up-and-down season with illness and injury, I believe 2020-21 has been some of her best football yet.
“What is exciting, is I know there is still more to come. Rowey has grown a love for this club like many of the others and has become a big part of it.
“I’m excited to keep working with Rowey and to see what else there is to come.”
She joined the Royals in 2015 from Swansea City and was part of the squad that gained promotion to the FA Women’s Super League.
During her first season with the Royals Rowe remained semi-professional. She made the 300-mile round trip from Swansea three times a week as she continued to work in the prison service.
Upon Reading’s promotion to the WSL, Rowe signed her first professional contract.
She has since gone on to play 100 games for the Royals, reaching the milestone this season in their 1-1 draw with Tottenham.
Rowe made her Wales debut back in 2015 against Austria whilst still working in the prison service.
Her goal in a Wales shirt was a late winner against Belarus in October 2019, in what was her first international game after recovering from an ACL injury she suffered the previous year.
