Swansea City 6-0 Cyncoed Ladies: Super six for Swans as they sweep aside Mighty Oaks

Imperious Swansea City swept aside Cyncoed Ladies as they inflicted a 6-0 drubbing on the Mighty Oaks in the Welsh Premier Women’s League.

A headed brace from Tija Richardson, plus goals from Chloe Chivers, Emma Beynon, Laura Davies, and an own goal saw Cyncoed dismantled in the second-half at Llandarcy Academy of Sport.

Charlie Mitchell’s side had held the Swans until the Swans struck a minute from half-time but they were powerless to resist a ten-minute onslaught from the champions which saw four goals shipped.

The league leaders maintain their two-point gap over Cardiff Met and secure a sixth clean sheet in seven matches. Cyncoed meanwhile dropped two places after wins for Cardiff City and Port Talbot.

The hosts were dominant from the off, building up play down the right through Ellie Lake and Chivers.

They could have opened the scoring but Stacey John-Davis was unable to find the bottom corner from close range.

The Mighty Oaks defended well, forcing Swansea to shoot from range as Lake and Shaunna Jenkins both had fired from distance.

After a frustrating half of long-range strikes and unsuccessful crosses, the league leaders found the breakthrough.

Richardson broke down the right and whipped a ball straight onto the head of Davies to send the Swans in at half time 1-0 up.

Just before the hour mark, the assist provider went down with a nock to her ankle which required some lengthy treatment.

She was fine to continue and a few minutes later the midfielder thought she had doubled her side’s advantage.

Her strike from the edge of the area came off the underside of the bar and bounced off the line, there could only have been a few inches in it as Richardson was convinced that it had crossed the line.

But a few minutes later she did score, heading in a Chivers corner for Swansea’s second of the afternoon.

She grabbed her second 10 minutes from time, turning in a Kay Hosford cross as the floodgates opened.

Moments later, they had a fourth. Caitlin Meadows turned a dangerous Swansea cross into her own net.

Two minutes from time, Jenkins’ miscued strike fell straight to the path of Chivers, who finished neatly past the keeper.

Having come off the bench in the second half, Beynon added a sixth in stoppage time.

Her goal capped off a brilliant second-half performance from the Swans which saw them maintain their winning streak.
