Lauren Amor’s last-minute goal directly from a corner gave Port Talbot a derby double over their local rivals Briton Ferry Llansawel at Victoria Road.

The visitors thought they had bagged a point when Lowri Baker equalised on 83 minutes after Rachael Ball had put the Steelwomen in front.

The win means that Port Talbot have now done the double over their local rivals in the Afan Way derby.

The first chance of the game fell to the hosts when a cross from the right found Maise Miller at the back post, but she miss-hit her volley and sent it wide.

Thirty seconds later Laura-May Walkley was played in behind one on one with the keeper, but her chipped shot landed just wide of the goal.

Another chance fell to Miller who cut in from the left and sent a bending shot towards the top corner which was saved well by Courtney Young.

Briton Ferry rode their luck in the first half-hour, but were unlucky themselves when Lucy Powell hit the cross bar directly from a corner.

Both teams had chances in the first half but were unable to find the back of the net.

Port Talbot started the second half brilliantly, they could have scored within three minutes had Young not saved Lauren Amor’s close-range header.

However, they did score from the resulting corner, Young failed to claim the ball and Rachael Ball was there to fire in the loose ball from three yards out.

After their goal, Port Talbot dominated with Amor and Miller testing Young in the Ferry goal but the keeper stood strong.

The Steelwomen thought they had doubled their lead just after the hour mark when Amor bested Young from the edge of the area, but the linesman raised his flag.

Amor received the ball in an onside position before firing home, the decision to disallow the goal was confused the Port Talbot players.

Having ridden their luck, Briton Ferry drew level thanks to substitute Lowri Baker.

She closed down Vicky Beddows before pinching it from the goalkeeper and slotting the ball into an empty net.

The equaliser led to a fiery final 10 minutes as both sides looked to find a later winner for all three points.

Port Talbot’s search proved to be a successful one when they scored in the most unconventional ways.

Amor delivered an in-swinging corner which bounced in front of the Ferry defence, catching Young off guard and helpless as it hit the net.
