Barry Town United began the Championship Conference with a victory as they claimed a late 1-0 victory over Caernarfon Town at The Oval.
Substitute Curtis Jemmett-Hutson scored his second goal of the season as they won another match in stoppage time for a consecutive week.
From the second-half performance, Gavin Chesterfield’s men deserved their victory. Caernarfon will be dejected that they could not hold on to the point.
The Linnets narrow the gap on Bala Town to just three points however the Lakesiders do play The New Saints later on in the day.
The home side started the game brightly and were looking the likelier to create an opening but Luke Cooper and Curtis McDonald proved to be a tough nut to crack and Caernarfon weren’t really troubling Mike Lewis in the visiting goal.
Lewis was particularly impressive in extinguishing any set-piece chances from the home side, many of them finding their way into his grateful hands.
Caernarfon did create some openings but they weren’t clear-cut ones, Jack Kenny could not get on the end of a Paulo Mendes cross and Lewis wasn’t really troubled by the long-range strikes that came his way.
Barry didn’t show much going forward but was considerably solid at the back which saw the first-half end goalless.
Changes were made at the break by both as Gruff John came on to replace Gareth Edwards for the home side and David Cotterill replaced Robbie Patten for the visitors.
Barry looked a different animal in the second half and they were the ones creating the chances, Kayne McLaggon looking more threatening going forward and Jordan Cotterill, Evan Press, and Chris Hugh were playing much further forward than they were in the first half.
A lot of yellow cards were shown to both sides during the second half but no one was in real danger of getting sent off and Barry was the one looking to score and the hosts were grateful for the excellent goalkeeping skills of Josh Tibbetts to keep them in at times.
A free-kick from former Wales international David Cotterill from 25 yards out took a wicked deflection which wrong-footed the keeper but he managed to sort his feet out and make a wonderful save. Minutes later Evan Press should have scored as he found himself in acres of space in the box but he skied his shot over the bar. Minutes later Nat Jarvis was replaced by Curtis Jemmett Hutson.
In the last quarter, we saw the best chance of the game and it was David Cotterill was at the centre of it as he cut inside on his left foot and his shot was destined to find the top corner but Tibbetts was again on hand to provide a fantastic one-handed save and it looked certain to finished goalless.
No real cut chances were created as the final whistle neared and as we got into added time, both teams were still looking to attack and find the winner and it was the visitors who were successful in their efforts.
The game had its breakthrough moment as Jemmett-Hutson made an impact from the bench to score with an instinctive finish.
A goal made by Jordan Cotterill who made a weaving run and found himself on the edge of the box and his perfectly timed pull back was met by Curtis Jemmett-Hutson and he finished calmly into the bottom corner and the Barry players went wild knowing that they had taken all three points.
