Key talking points as Bala Town put five past Caernarfon Town in Gwynedd Derby
Bala Town earned bragging rights in the Gwynedd Derby as they put five past Caernarfon Town on their way to victory in a 5-2 win at Maes Tegid.
In a match full of drama and action, the Lakesiders trailed the visitors at half-time after the Cofis a 2-1 lead when the former Bala Town striker Mike Hayes earned and scored a penalty before the break.
The Gwynedd Derby is always a feisty affair!
With a total of seven cards handed out by the referee, the Gwynedd Derby continued to deliver in terms of passion on the field. Both sets of players left it all out on the field, with a high tempo set for the game from the very start, ultimately leading to a seven goal thriller!
Chris Venables is unstoppable!
Venables scored yet another brace for Bala Town as he scored his 20th and 21st goal of the season and continues to top the charts in terms of league goals scored this campaign.
The Lakesiders’ captain was his usual ruthless self in front of goal as headed home his 20th goal of the season in rather fitting style in the 20th minute. He grabbed his second late on with a simple finish for Bala’s fourth of the evening.
Super Subs
Colin Caton opted to change things up at half-time with a double substitution with his side trailing, Jack Mackreth and Henry Jones made their way onto the field to replace Raul Correia and Steve Leslie.
This worked a treat as Bala Town instantly had Caernarfon Town on the back foot and scored within minutes of the restart.
Mackreth caused the visitors endless problems down the right flank while Henry Jones was continuously involved in every attack and had a hand in setting up Venables’ second goal.
Caernarfon Town’s goalkeeper woes clear to see
With Josh Tibbetts injured and out for the season, the Cofis reacted quickly with the signing of Lewis Brass in midweek. However, he has a two-game matchday suspension which carried over from his last game at the Nomads, meaning he was out for the Gwynedd Derby and their home fixtures versus TNS on Tuesday.
This led to Tyler French on Derby Day, unfortunately for him, Bala weren’t forgiving in front of goal as they scored five on their way to victory with the shot-stopper having a game to forget for himself.
