Cascade Ladies defeated Briton Ferry Llansawel Ladies 2-0 at Old Road to put themselves in a commanding position to progress in the Welsh Premier Women’s League Cup.

Franchesca Gilpin and Katie Davies scored in either half to put Sam Daniels’ side into second place of their four team group.

Cascade will only need to avoid defeat against Aberystwyth Town next week to progress to the semi-finals of the League Cup.

Cascade looked to force errors early on as Gilpin was almost able to latch on to a poor pass. Moments later Moreton tried from distance but her shot over the bar.

Briton Ferry’s Chelsea Deacon went on a driving run through the middle of the park but was unable to find the final pass.

The deadlock was broken in the form of Franchesca Gilpin, who had only begun playing football last summer. A corner put in at the near post was met by Sophie Hamer. Celyn Barnett, making her debut for the Reds was able to stop Hamer’s effort only for Gilpin to bundle the ball into the net.

Caitlin Owen looked to get Briton Ferry back the game as she shot from the edge of the box but she hit her shot wide of the goal.

Annaliese Lewis picked up the ball and ran past Laura Braithwaite, she took a shot but it was too close to Barnett who made the save.

Cascade had another chance before the half ended as Mia Kemp found Amelia Mills in the box. Mills tried to loop the ball over her head and into the goal but it was too high and went over the bar.

Briton Ferry started the second half brightly as Jess Pascoe played a teasing ball across the box. Caitlin Owen was unable to reach it and create a chance at goal.

Abbie Davies on as a sub for Cascade looked lively and ran at the Briton Ferry Défense. Cascade looked to play through Davies who was a constant handful.

Briton Ferry tried to find an equaliser in the second half but were limited to half chances. After a good run Chelsea Deacon was unable to find a pass before seeing her attempted lob go over.

As the half went on the game became scrappy until the 75th minute when Katie assured the away side the victory.

Davies was in the middle of the Briton Ferry half when she effortlessly sent the ball into the top corner of the goal. The ball moving in the air as Barnett stretched to reach it but could only watch it go in the net.

Cascade were able to see out the rest of the game with neither side able to create any major chances.
