The New Saints 3-0 Barry Town United: Brobbel brace keeps pressure on Nomads

The New Saints ensure the Cymru Premier title race went to the wire after defeating Barry Town United 3-0 at Park Hall in the Championship Conference.

All the goals came in the second half as Ryan Brobbel got a brace with one from the penalty spot and Adrian Cieslewicz netted as a substitute.

The Saints dominated the match throughout and could have scored from a bundle of opportunities showing why they are still in contention for this season’s title.


In an early chance for the hosts, Danny Redmond intercepted the ball and managed to run into the box unchallenged and have a shot that was saved by Michael Lewis.

The following minute Ben Clark had a shot from outside the penalty area that went wide of the Linnets goal.

A few seconds later, Jamie Mullan had a shot on target that Lewis saved to his left-hand side.

Ryan Brobbel had a chance from outside the 18-yard area that went wide of the away sides net.

Several minutes later, Danny Redmond got an opportunity that blazed over the crossbar with the game remaining goalless.


A couple of minutes before half-time Nat Jarvis got Gavin Chesterfields’ side their first shot on target in the match as the forward got a clean strike away from just outside the box as Paul Harrison caught the ball.

At the start of the second-half the Saints took the lead as Jamie Mullan passed the ball to Ryan Brobbel who shot it into the top of the net past Lewis to give the home-side a 1-0 lead and Brobbel’s 11th goal of the season.

Just short of the hour mark, the ball got played in to Mullan for TNS who had a shot that Barry manage to block and clear their lines.

Anthony Limbrick’s team doubled their lead just after the hour mark as Ben Clark passed the ball to Adrian Cieslewicz with the winger scoring in the box past Lewis.

Moments later, Danny Redmond went down in the box with the referee pointing to the spot and seconds after Ryan Brobbel scored into the top left of the goal and extending the lead to three.

Late on in the match Leo Smith had a shot inside the penalty area that went off target as the game finished 3-0.

TNS will now host Bala Town in the final round of fixtures next week. Meanwhile, Barry will play Caernarfon Town at Jenner Park.
