In the first meaningful chance of the match, Connah’s Quay seized the initiative to break the deadlock through their captain. Penybont failed to clear from a corner-kick and Edwards delivered a delicious cross to Horan who rose highest to header home past Morris.

The side in pole position held the one-goal advantage at the break and commanded the first-half having made the most of the opportunities with Oliver Byrne not tested.

There was a feeling of nervousness in the air in Bridgend as Penybont began to grow into the match with the away defence having their backs to the wall.

The home side had claims for a penalty as Declan Poole grappled with Daniel Jefferies in the box however no official deemed it a spot-kick.

There was thick tension awaiting a cue for a match-changing moment and it was the Nomads who took centre stage of the Cymru Premier dramafest.

Speedster Danny Davies delivered an exquisite cross into Edwards who headed down at goal and past Morris to secure an insurance goal.
