Connah’s Quay were ecstatic this afternoon as they lifted the Cymru Premier trophy for a second year in a row.
Goals from Aeron Edwards and George Horan saw the Nomads defeat Penybont 2-0 at the SDM Glass Stadium to claim back-to-back titles.
In the celebrations, Nomads boss Andy Morrison was visibly happy with a smirk on his face, pictured in a red jacket and a cowboy hat.
Printed on the front of his hoodie was #RealChampions and on the back was #KeepTheTrophyInWales, which prompted some questions from S4C’s Sioned Dafydd.
The hat is somewhat a signature piece of clothing that TNS chairman Mike Harris has been seen sporting at a few fixtures.
“This is a pure tribute to my mate Mike Harris down at TNS,” joked Morrison in response to his change in attire for the celebrations.
“Last year we won the title and it had to go to the High Court for it to be awarded to us.
“We were taunted with not being real champions. It isn’t just about today for me. These are back-to-back titles and that is how important is.”
After wrapping up the interview, Morrison stared down the front of the camera and said: ‘The trophy ain’t going back to England, it’s staying in Wales.”
A slight jibe on their title rivals TNS, who play their home games across the border in Oswestry, having historically been based in Llansantffraid.
It was all in good taste however as Harris congratulated his rival chairman on their success.
He tweeted: “Congratulations to Connah’s Quay on winning the Cymru Premier. Well done to Andy, Craig Harrison. Enjoy the evening and I look forward to doing battle again next season.
“Well done Gary Dewhurst, the league needs more chairmen like you.
He also added #QuayRealChampions in the middle of the tweet, recognising their achievements after last season’s curtailment.
