Coed Duon Women issue statement after snub from FAW’s new Tier Two
Coed Duon Women have expressed their disappointment after they were demoted from the second tier of Welsh Women’s football.
The Dragons were not admitted to the FAW’s eight-team division for the South, despite possessing a Tier Two Licence.
Their non entry to the new league means that they face a relegation, despite standing in the Welsh Women’s League last season.
They are not only side which has faced a demotion from South Wales’ second tier, as Cwmbrân Celtic, Dafen Welfare, Llangyfelach, Penybont and Willows Ladies are also moved into the recreational level of Women’s football.

A statement published on their social media feed read: “We are disappointed to have been removed from Tier Two.
“As a team, we worked extremely hard during a pandemic to meet all the criteria set out by the FAW. Unfortunately, they have decided to hand select teams rather than basing their decision on sporting merit.
“Although Coed Duon Women was only reestablished in 2017, the girls entered the bottom of the pyramid and gained back-to-back promotions to earn their position in the second tier of Welsh Women’s football.
“Seeing other teams jump the ladder to perform at a higher level is deeply disappointing.
“Unfortunately, grassroots football in rural areas is being forgotten about, despite the talent quite clearly being there.
“Coed Duon Women will be back and we will earn our place again.”
