Welsh Cup: Qualifying Round One draw throws up big derby games
The Football Association of Wales today conducted the Qualifying Round Draw for the 2021/22 Welsh Cup.
Rond – regionalised at this stage – was split into four sections: South West, South East, Central, North West, and North East.
The draw included teams from the Ardal Leagues down to the recreational level of Welsh football, creating many some games of interest.
All ties will be played on Saturday 10 July, with most of the leagues outside the FAW’s top three tiers beginning the week before.
Most sides will play their first competitive game since March 2020 after the coronavirus pandemic brought to an end the 2019/20 season, as well as 2020/21 being mothballed.
CPD Y Rhyl 1879, the phoenix club of the two-time Cymru Premier winners Rhyl, will play their first competitive match of football against their local rivals Rhyl Dragons.
Fan-owned Bangor 1876, who welcome back spectators this weekend in a test event, face Menai Bridge Tigers.
Games of intrigue in the South include debutants Roath Park Rangers hosting Ardal Leagues side Dinas Powys, meanwhile Fairwater host Cardiff West rivals Ely Rangers at Poplar Park.
A Caerphilly derby to look forward to Cefn Hengoed, members of the Taff-Ely and Rhymney Valley Football League, who will welcome Aberbargoed Buds at Y Fynwent.
Three-time Welsh Cup runners-up Cwmbrân Town have a home tie against Monmouth Town.
Cwmbach Royal Stars, who are based less than a mile away from Aberaman Park, will face their local rivals Aberdare Town.
A total of 25 clubs have been given a bye to the second round of qualifying, they will join the competition on July 24.
