Gemma Evans announces departure from Bristol City
Wales defender Gemma Evans has announced on social media that she has left Bristol City after three years with the club.
The Vixens were relegated to the FA Women’s Championship at the end of last season.
“After 3 years at Bristol city I have decided that it’s time for a new challenge,” Evans revealed on her Instagram page.
“I would like to say a massive thank you to everyone involved at Bristol who believed in me throughout my time there.
“The past three years have been a rollercoaster of emotions, so many highs and so many lows, but we always stuck together.
“Lastly a huge thank you to the fans, although this year has been a strange one, we have always appreciated your support and known you was with us ever step of the way, it’s greatly appreciated.
“Bristol will always be a special club to me but I’m ready and very excited for the next chapter of my career.”
One possible destination for the 24-year-old could be Women’s Super League side Reading.
Despite losing Angharad James and Jess Fishlock to the NWSL they still have a strong core of Welsh internationals.
Natasha Harding, Rachel Rowe, Bethan Roberts and Lily Woodham are all under contract at the Madejski Stadium for next season.
The Royals are likely in the market for a centre-back following the departures of Molly Bartrip in May.
Reading finished seventh in the WSL last season under head coach Kelly Chambers.
Evans started her career with Cardiff City before spending a season with Yeovil Town from who she joined Reading in 2018.
The Rhondda-native has won 30 international caps since making her debut back in 2016.
