Curtis Jemmett-Hutson set to represent Barbados national football team

Curtis Jemmett-Hutson looks set to represent the Barbados national football team after being included in a recent training squad.

The 26-year-old, who has been linked with a move to English non-league outfit Redditch United, has been included in Russell Latapy’s squad ahead of the Concacaf Gold Cup qualifiers, which begin in July.

He could play alongside former Reading striker Nick Blackman, who is also undergoing a period of quarantine before he links up with the side.

Swindon Town forward Hallam Hope and former Mansfield Town defender Krystian Pearce are also part of the squad.

Jemmett-Hutson, who was born in Wales, qualifies for the country through his father, who was Barbadian, and now he could be set to play for the Bajan Tridents.

Commenting on the prospect of representing the Caribbean side, he said: “It’s been a struggle getting my citizenship and everything, but it’s finally come through so to get the call-up, any footballer can’t ask for any more than the pride of representing their country, so it was a blessing really.

“I’ve been watching the boys in the World Cup Qualifying games to see how everything is going and I am just excited to be a part of it now and give everything I’ve got.”

“All of the boys are very good talent and good quality players and all of the boys look like they’ve got a lot of cohesiveness.”

The pacey winger has been involved in Welsh domestic football for the last number of years after playing for Penybont.

Jemmett-Hutson was part of the Bont side that won the Welsh League Division One title, going the entire campaign unbeaten.

He made 23 appearances for Rhys Griffiths’ side, scoring five times, before returning to Barry Town United.

Upon his return to Jenner Park, he featured 28 times under Gavin Chesterfield, scoring on two occasions this season.

Hutson could become the fourth player in the Linnets squad to represent a country at a senior level with Wales’ David Cotterill and Antiguan and Barbudan international Nat Jarvis also in Barry’s ranks.

Club teammate Theo Wharton, was recently on international duty for Saint Kitts and Nevis in their World Cup qualifiers, featuring in four of their matches.

The Sugar Boyz were unfortunately defeated 6-0 on aggregate by El Salvador in their play-off for a place in the CONCAF World Cup Qualifying group.
