Chris Hughes has extended his stay at Newtown by putting pen-to-paper on a new deal with the club.

Hughes, who has been in charge since November 2013, has signed a new two-year deal with the Robins.

The new contract will see him remain at Latham Park until 2023, taking his time at the club to a decade.

The former Prestatyn Town assistant recently led the club into the Europa Conference League, defeating Caernarfon Town 5-3 in the play-off final.

They have been drawn against League of Ireland outfit Dundalk and will play them at Oriel Park in the first leg, before facing them at Park Hall.

Kevin Speake, the newly appointed Director of Football for Newtown, said: “I am delighted to announce the signing of manager, Chris Hughes, on a new two-year contract.

“It was imperative that we secured Chris’ services for the longer term. In my opinion, he and his team have overachieved in recent years, including winning the play-offs to secure European football for the club.

“I am really looking forward to working with Chris moving forward. Making him my first signing was really important to me, and I am confident the club is now well positioned to move forward on the next step of our journey.”
