Gary Richards has joined Haverfordwest County in the role of assistant manager to Wayne Jones.

Richards, who played for the Bluebirds towards the end of his playing career, returns in a coaching capacity.

The 57-year-old had most recently been assistant manager to Cameron Toshack at Pafos and now he will hold a similar role in the Cymru Premier.

The former Newport and Llanelli defender, has been coaching since 2013 and was heavily involved with his former club Swansea City.

During a 14-year spell in South Wales, he oversaw the Under-18 and Under-23s sides, as well as being first-team coach in 2017.

His influence in their academy would see the likes of Ben Davies, Connor Roberts, Joe Allen and Joe Rodon, all feature for the Swans first-team.

Commenting on his appointment, Wayne Jones said: “We’re delighted that Waggy has joined, he has an incredible amount of coaching knowledge and understands the game very well.

“He will be a great asset to the coaching team and we’re now looking forward to preseason.”

Richards takes up the role after Mark Murison stood down as assistant. Murison will remain the club and will now focus on the Head of Coaching Role.

The Bluebirds have also seen Trison Jenkins join the coaching staff as first-team physio.

Meanwhile they have parted company with former Academy Director, Steve Batty, who leaves after ten years.
