Colin Staples has stood down from his role of Head Coach of Welsh Premier Women’s League winners Swansea City Ladies AFC.
Staples, who led the Swans to a League and Cup triumph, leaves the Swans after managing them for the 2020/21 season.
He worked alongside General Manager, Ian Owen, who had previously held a similar to him, before allowing Staples to focus on on-the-field affairs.
Announcing the news on social media, he said: “After a great deal of deliberation and after a truly great year with Swansea City Ladies.
“I have made the decision to stand down as Head Coach and spend some time with my other TEAM, Team Staples. I wish the players, staff & supporters a very successful 21-22 season. Thank you.”
In response, the club issued a reply saying: “Everyone at Swans Ladies would like to thank Colin Staples for his professionalism and dedication as head coach, wishing Colin and Team Staples all the very best for the future. Thank you.”
Despite his departure, the Swans have began their preparations for their upcoming Champions League campaign.
The players are already back in training and both Claire Skinner and the long-serving Gemma Border have committed to the club.
Their opponents for what will be their fifth European campaign will be revealed on Friday.
The format has been slightly altered after they were defeated by Cypriot side Apollon Limassol.
Swansea will join in Round One alongside 44 teams, including the likes of Glasgow City and Glentoran.
They will play a knock-out match as a likely unseeded team. Should they lose their match, they will play the loser of the other team in their group in a third-placed play-off, that could earn them more money.
Should they perform well then there could be additional money for the league.
