Swansea City Ladies have been drawn against Russian champions CSKA Moscow in Round One of the UEFA Women’s Champions League.

Moscow are already in their campaign, having played 13 matches, where they currently trail Lokomotiv by nine points.

They have won the Russian title two teams, both back-to-back in 2019 and 2020. In their ranks they have full internationals such as Elvira Todua, who has over 100 appearances for her country.

Reacting to the draw, Swansea’s Jess Williams took to social media to say: “Let’s get it.”

Discussions will be held between Apollon, FC Dinamo, Moscow and Swansea on who will host the tournament.

A mini tournament will take place over the three days to decide who progresses to the second qualifying round. The fixtures will be played on August 18, with the third-place play-off and final to be played on August 21.

Swansea are guaranteed two games, either for a place in the next round or to decide who finishes third with the side finishing highest-earning more prize money for themselves and their respective divisions.

The Swans are in Europe’s top club competition after winning the Welsh Premier Women’s League for a second consecutive time, when they embark on their journey, they will be playing in their fifth European campaign.

In last season’s tournament, they played Cypriot side Apollon, suffering a 3-0 defeat back in November when the format was a single-legged match due to the Coronavirus pandemic. They have the opportunity to face them once more after drawing them in Group Seven.

It is hopeful that the games will be streamed on DAZN and YouTube after a groundbreaking agreement that was announced yesterday.
