New Saints snap up Ash Baker after Newport County exit
Ash Baker has put pen-to-paper on a deal with The New Saints after leaving Newport County AFC.
The 24-year-old becomes the fourth signing of the summer at Park Hall after the signings of Danny Daviess, Declan McManus and Jordan Williams.
Baker was recently released by EFL League Two outfit Newport and joins the Welsh pyramid system for the first time in his career.
The Bridgend-born defender joined Newport County in January 2020 but was limited to just 12 senior appearances at Rodney Parade.
Prior to joining the Exiles, he was previously on the books of Cardiff City, before joining EFL Championship outfit Sheffield Wednesday, where he made 13 appearances.
As well as his club career, he also has three caps at the Under-21 level for Wales.
“We are really pleased with the addition of Ash to the squad here at TNS,” said manager Anthony Limbrick on his latest addition.
“He comes with a good pedigree, having played at a decent level in the Football League. His versatility will also be a positive, with him being able to play at full-back and in midfield.”
TNS’s Director of Football, Gary Brabin added: “Ash is a great character with a big heart, who was playing championship football two years ago and was well thought of in the Welsh national system.
“He’s still only 24, and after a difficult time in the last twelve months, will be looking to settle down at The New Saints and get back to his best form and start enjoying his football again.”
It is hopeful that he could make his competitive debut for his new side when the Oswestry club take on FK Kauno Žalgiris on Thursday in the UEFA Europa Conference League.
