Wales U21 international Ryan Stirk has joined Mansfield Town on a season-long loan from Championship side Birmingham City.

The 20-year-old is a graduate of the Birmingham City academy, and up until now, has spent his entire career with the Blues.

Stirk’s new manager Nigel Clough told the Stags’ official website: “Ryan is a young midfielder, who played in the same Birmingham under-23s’ team as Ryan Burke.

“He has some experience in the first team at Birmingham and shows a lot of potentials.

“Recent injuries to George Lapslie, Harry Charsley, and Jason Law have highlighted that we could be a little light in this area. He’ll therefore give good competition in midfield.”

The young midfielder also had his say on the move: “Yeah, it’s a massive day for me obviously, signing for a club of this stature.

“It’s great to get out on loan and experience a club like this, and hopefully play a lot of football this season.”

The midfielder has made two Championship appearances for Birmingham, both on the back end of last season.

He’ll also be joining fellow Welshman and former Wales U21 international Elliott Hewitt at the club.

Stirk has seven Wales U21 appearances to his name. His most recent cap coming in June in a 0-0 draw against Moldova.

He was also involved in the impressive 1-0 victory over Belgium in September 2019. The midfielder came off the bench for the final four minutes to help secure the win for Paul Bodin’s side.
