Ruthin Town 0-3 Caernarfon Town: Canaries cruise into Round Three after trio score

Caernarfon Town avoided any worries of a Nathaniel MG Cup banana skin as their new-look side beat Ruthin Town 3-0 to progress to round three.

Ruthin who were unbeaten before tonight were swept aside by a Caernarfon side whose goals came from Cai Jones, Sion Bradley, and Noah Edwards.

The game started with both teams looking comfortable on the ball and looking to control the game on the deck.

The first real chance of the game fell to Caernarfon’s Noah Edwards, who did well down the left flank and then cut inside but saw his effort sail over the bar.

Caernarfon Town took the lead and what a nice goal it was, Cai Jones played a lovely little one-two with the impressive Sion Bradley which set him free in the box to smash the ball past the advancing Ruthin goalkeeper Ryan Goldston.

The first goal seemed to knock Ruthin out of their sails for a bit as Caernarfon were comfortable in controlling the football and Rob Hughes nearly punished Ruthin further but saw his effort sail high and wide after more good work by Sion Bradley.

Caernarfon were really enjoying themselves now and went very close with a good save from Goldston from a Bradley low free-kick which was heading into the bottom corner.

On the half-hour mark though, Caernarfon did make it 2-0 and it was great work in the build-up from 42-year-old Cymru Premier legend Steve Evans who was allowed to travel to the edge of the Ruthin box and lift a glorious chip for the onrushing Sion Bradley to power a volley home.

Five minutes before the break came Ruthin’s best chance, the bright Sam Rickett did a lovely flick over the oncoming defender and hit a lovely ball across goal for defender Kyle Jones to strike wide

Half time came and went with Caernarfon pretty much in control and it should have been 3-0 on 53 minutes when captain Dion Donohue returning to the club after 7 years playing in English football missed a great chance inside the box after being picked up by Darren Thomas.

It was Thomas’s turn this time to miss a great chance as he was put through one on one with the goalkeeper following a great ball by Sion Bradley but this time the Cofi Messi finishing let him down as he finished just wide of the left-hand post.

Within minutes though Caernarfon did make it three and it was Noah Edwards who got on the scoresheet to tap home from six yards out following a good move which saw Dion Donhue pick put Darren Thomas with a lovely long pass who in turn fed Edwards to slide home.

Ruthin, who never stopped battling, nearly reduced the deficit in the 70th minute when Sam Rickett had an effort blocked in the box following good work down the left-hand side.

The final 15 or so minutes saw Caernarfon see the game out with minimal fuss which will delight manager Huw Griffiths in their first competitive game of the season.

Ruthin Town, on the other hand, shouldn’t lose heart from a battling performance but ultimately didn’t test Caernarfon’s on loan from Liverpool goalkeeper Jakub Ojrzynski during the 90 minutes.
