Goytre United defeated Swansea University 2-1 at Glenhafod Park to continue their perfect start to the Cymru South season.

Callum Bateman scored a goal in both halves to secure a fourth straight victory for Lee John’s men. Cam Langan had equalised for the Students but Bateman continued his purple patch by scoring his sixth league goal of the campaign.

Swansea University started the game off and had chances right from the start with Bruno Osorio finding space but he fired his shot from outside the box over the crossbar.

The away team pushed and pushed and Goytre had two quick yellow cards for Daniel Birch and Adam Robbins for some cheap fouls.

Osorio was tormenting Lee John’s defence but the final passes in the final third lacked composure as Swansea were on top in the first 25 mins.

But against the run of play we got our first goal from United. Swansea were unable to clear their lines the home side regained possession and a beautiful pass from the right-hand side found Bateman who with a delicate touch fired past Luke Martin.

From Bateman’s opener, the home side had momentum and found them selves on top after patiently waiting to strike.

More chances were being created and the first goal scorer Bateman found himself in a one-on-one with Martin, he tried to delicately chip the goalkeeper but his effort went just wide.

They were made to rue that missed chance as from the goal kick Swansea were back into the game. Swansea pushed forward into the box the ball found Cam Langan who beat one defender, cutting inside another before powering past Scott Coughlin.

Just before the break, a goal-hungry Bateman had another one-on-one, trying to round the goalkeeper but Martin stood firm and blocked a second goal.

As the second-half started, Swansea pushed forward with goal scorer Langan driving forward and an audacious shot from 30 yards out just missed the top scorer.

Goytre were fored in to making a change as Adam Robbins made way for the experienced Samual O’Sullivan. Both teams pushed and pushed but lacked composure in front of the goal with plenty of efforts off target.

With fifteen minutes remaining and the game crying out for a game-clinching goal. Defender Birch went on a superb solo run, before putting in a powerful cross that Martin could only parry to Bateman who was there to pounce for a two-yard tap in.

Goytre could have been 3-1 up but Bradley Flay’s tired shot rolled into the arms of the Uni goalkeeper.

Swansea were on top in the final mins with six minutes of added time played but couldn’t find the target.

Goytre United’s Lee John said: “It was a great game today very proud of the boys we defended excellently.

They were two great goals from Callum and yes there were opportunities for both teams but we felt if we scored at 1-1 we would go ahead and win the match tonight.

“Swansea threw everything at us in the final minutes but I am so proud of my team showed great character. Four wins in four, I am absolutely delighted.”

Goytre United’s Callum Bateman said: “I am so happy with today’s performance especially in myself with getting sent off last week for two minor challenges,

“I’m proud of my performance scoring two goals but so happy for the lads we played well today.

“Both goals we great today but birchy’s run and final pass to find me in the box and to trust me to be there I’m so so proud of the boys today and we keep our 100% winning record in the league this season.
