Cambrian & Clydach Vale continued their unbeaten start to the Cymru South season as they strolled to a 3-0 victory over Briton Ferry Llansawel.

Kyle Jones opened the scoring before namesake Sam added a second just before the break. Substitute Craig Wilcox furthered the Sky Blues’ lead in what was a statement-making performance for the men from the Rhondda.

Scott Young’s men were rarely challenged by promotion rivals Briton Ferry and were streetwise in their win, scoring goals at the right times.

Cambrian started on the front foot, moving the ball into the right positions as they showed their early attacking intent.

To deal with the early pressure, Connah McFenton had to be alert as Sam Jones’ tried o drill an effort at the back post. McFenton dived down well to stop the winger but on the follow-up whipped in a cross for Ryan Prosser to head wide.

Keen to make the most of their spell in possession, Cambrian went in front through Kyle Jones. Defender Joe Thomas laid the ball to the centrally-placed Jones who lifted a deflected shot over the stranded Ferry keeper.

The setback sparked some life into the Ferry attack. Straight from the kick-off, Sam Baker went down the flank and crossed in for the unmarked Luke Bowen who was unable to direct his header on target. Bowen had a further opportunity as he hit the side netting with a low rasping shot.

A minute into first-half stoppage time, Sam Jones bagged a deserved goal. Wilcox, introduced for Kiki Coles due to an injury, defeated his marker and put a low ball across the box for Jones to score with an easy finish.

After the restart, Prosser almost added an immediate third but the front-man could only watch on as his shot went wide.

A third goal came not long after as Wilcox netted his second goal in Cam colours following his decision to return to playing after a spell in coaching at Cardiff Met WFC.

An intricate passing move between Prosser and right-back Thomas was finished off by Wilcox who curled a low deflected shot past McFenton.

Youngster Corey Hurford, one of the only bright sparks for Briton Ferry, hit a bobbled shot at Clarke, but he wasn’t challenged. He had another shot with ten minutes remaining but his effort was sent over.

Carl Shaw’s men were unable to add even a consolation goal as Cambrian controlled the game from start to finish with an honorable mention for Joe Thomas, who did not put a foot wrong in an assured performance at the back.
