Caernarfon Town opened up the new Cymru Premier season with a win as they defeated Haverfordwest County 2-0 at The Oval.

Danny Gosset put the Canaries on their way with a fantastic free-kick with just under 15 left to play before Cai Jones finished brilliantly with a lob over goalkeeper Lee Idzi to secure the three points for the home side.

Caernarfon find themselves second in the table after their first match with visitors Haverfordwest down in 10th position.

The first half was a very even affair, both sides looked comfortable on the ball, however, no real chances were created.

The brightest spark in the first half was Caernarfon’s Rob Hughes who looked to get on the ball and drive at the Haverfordwest defence.

One of the few chances in the first half fell to Kieran Lewis of Haverfordwest, his shot lacked power and wasn’t enough to trouble young goalkeeper Jakub Ojrzynski.

The second half was a much better watch with chances falling to both teams.

Goalkeeper Ojrzynski was called into action on a few occasions in the second half, showing his quality and saving well to deny Jones before the hour mark.

Former Wales international Jazz Richards looked threatening down the right-hand side delivering numerous crosses into the box, but no Bluebirds could connect well enough to turn the ball goal bound.

The breakthrough came in the 73rd minute when Dan Gosset fired in a free-kick from the edge of the penalty area. He drove the ball down to the keeper’s right-hand corner to send the Canaries ahead.

The home side used the momentum from their first goal to push on and look for another. Sion Bradley’s effort went narrowly wide with 82 minutes gone before the game was put to bed by Cai Jones with a lovely finished that looped over the goalkeeper and into the back of the net.
