Two second half goals help Carmarthen Town to their first three points of the season with a 2-0 win over Swansea University.
Greg Walters opened the scoring minutes into the second half before setting up Liam Thomas for the Old Gold’s second of the afternoon.
Carmarthen could have been a goal down at halftime but for the heroics of debutant Scott Tancock who cleared Cam Langan’s effort off the line.
The Students had chances towards the end of the second half to get themselves back into the game through Bruno Osorio who fired over twice but ultimately their efforts were fruitless.
It was the visitors who had the first chance to open the scoring as Tim Hicks headed a cross from the left onto the post three minutes in.
Carmarthen then had their first effort to moments later when Tom Dyson hit a tame effort from the edge of the box straight at Luke Martin.
Sean Cresser opted to deploy Noah Daley centrally as Carmarthen looked to exploit his pace.
They were almost awarded for that decision when he picked up the ball in space, but he fired his shot too early, and it rolled narrowly wide of the post.
The hosts continued to dominate the remainder of the first half but were unable to truly test the Swansea Uni goalkeeper.
The Students almost break the deadlock in the dying moments of the first half when Cam Langan rounded the outrushing Scott James.
However, the debuting Scott Tancock was able to recover and turn Langan’s curling effort over the crossbar as Carmarthen escaped conceding against the run of play.
With the halftime advice of Sean Cresser still ringing in their ears, Carmarthen almost took the lead but for a fantastic stop by Martin.
He got down quickly to tip Liam Thomas’ excellent effort past the post.
On 50 minutes Carmarthen captain Greg Walters fired his side in the lead with a fantastic outside of the foot effort from the edge of the box.
The visitors seemed to click in attack following that goal with Thomas, Daley, and Walters all linking up to create chances.
It was the combination of Walters and Thomas that lead to Carmarthen’s second of the afternoon on 65 minutes.
Walters played in Thomas who ran through on goal before slotting the ball past Martin in a typical fashion.
It wasn’t until they had fallen two goals behind that Dafydd Evans’ side tested the hosts once again.
Bruno Osorio had a chance to get his side back in the game after an excellent turn, but he couldn’t control his effort which didn’t test James.
Substitute Luke Borelli had a chance to wrap up the game in the 90th minute but he hit his effort straight at the Swansea Uni goalkeeper.
