Briton Ferry Llansawel 0-3 Trefelin BGC: Joe Clarke hat-trick puts Trefelin through

Trefelin BGC are through to Round Three of the Welsh Cup after comfortably beating Briton Ferry Llansawel 3-0 at Old Road. 

A hat-trick from Joe Clarke including two penalties in either half inspired Richie Ryan’s side to victory where they will now be able to play against Cymru Premier sides.

It was a deserved win for the visitors who controlled the pace and flow of the game. Briton Ferry had chances to take the lead in the first half and that may have given the game a different outcome.

Trefelin started the game quickly working the ball out to the wide areas. Crossing the ball into the box in the early goings looking for Ceri Williams and Damon Thomas. Briton Ferry’s Luke Harris clearing the lines for the home side.

Stephan Davey found Corey Hurford out wide with a good ball out on the right. Hurford cut inside but delivered a poor cross that went out for a goal kick.

Briton Ferry were awarded a free kick on the edge of the box after a blocked shot given as handball. Kieran Williams struck a low drive which was well saved by Oliver Davies.

Trefelin soon had a free-kick of their own as Luis Bates pulled down Damon Thomas. Thomas curled the ball around the wall and drew low diving save from McFenton.

Darius Walters was late with a tackle that gave The Reds another free-kick. Working the ball around well and into the six-yard box to Keiran Williams. With the goal at his mercy, Williams blazed his shot over the bar.

After 22 minutes Trefelin took the lead. A corner kick into the box was turned into the net by Joe Clarke however it appeared to be off a Briton Ferry player.

Damon Thomas was causing Briton Ferry problems. With Trefelin moving the ball around they found Thomas in space but he shot over.

Just after Thomas had the ball and was running into the box before he was pulled down for a penalty to Trefelin. Joe Clarke stepped up and sent McFenton the wrong way putting the ball into the right of the goal after 36 minutes.

Trefelin had the first chance of the second half as Thomas saw his close-range shot saved brilliantly by McFenton.

Briton Ferry pushed forward trying to get back into the game. The Reds firing in three crosses in quick succession but each time Trefelin were able to clear.

Trefelin were looking to get a third goal to kill off the game. Sean Hanbury shooting over twice first from a good pass from Jordan Davies. Then from Ryan Bevan’s pass.

Tyrone Cadeau went for a shot on the edge of the box but it was blocked as Callum Jones dive in front of it. Mark Jones forced another save from Oliver Davies and Joe Hunt shot wide.

Trefelin got their third thanks to a Joe Clarke penalty after 70 minutes. A spell of pressure saw a shot fired from the edge of the box. The ball struck a Briton Ferry hand and Clarke went to the other side to make it 3-0.

Trefelin saw out the final 20 minutes to take the win.
