Cardiff Met Women 6-0 Port Talbot Town Ladies: Allen and Murray score braces as Archers thrash Steelwomen

Cardiff Met cruised to a first win of the Adran Premier with a 6-0 thrashing of Port Talbot Town Ladies at Cyncoed Campus.


Erin Murray opened the scoring with an effort from distance that went over the head of Emily Roberts to give the home side the lead.

Murray grabbed her second as she saw her deflected effort go into the bottom left corner to give the home side a two-goal lead at the break.

Emily Allen scored at the opening of the second half as she struck a brilliant effort into the top right corner.

Allen grabbed herself a double moments later when she saw her effort from just outside the area going into the bottom left corner.

Elianna Chavez grabbed a goal as a delivery from Allen on the right side was struck home from close range.

To cap off the scoring Shannon Evans fired an effort from outside the box as her effort was saved and eventually put in by Amy Long.

The opening stages of the game were highly-contested with both teams getting a grip on the game with no opportunities for either side.

The first opportunity of the game went to Met as Emily Richards had an effort from outside the box going just over the crossbar.

Soon after an effort from O’Leary went begging as a half volley effort went just wide past the post.

Lucy Finch joined in on the action as she latched onto a shot and fired from 30 yards. Her effort went inches wide of the post.

After a string of Met chances, Port Talbot replied with an effort from Courtney Thomas in which she rattled the crossbar as she intercepted a pass from Stephanie Turner from just inside the penalty area.

The Archers went up the other end and opened the scoring. Erin Murray saw Emily Roberts off her line and struck a chipped effort from 35 yards out to go over the keeper.

Met nearly added a second when brilliant build-up play from Erin Murray to Emily Allen led to Emily Richards firing an effort wide.

Sophie Hancocks moments later delivered a cross into the path of Chavez as her headed effort went wide.

Emily Richards caused danger for Port Talbot Ladies in the first half as she fired an effort from 25 yards out that went inches over the bar.

The second goal soon came as Erin Murray grabbed a brace when she fired her deflected effort from just inside the penalty area into the bottom left corner.

Met had a chance to make it three as Stephanie Turner had two close-range efforts saved by Roberts.

Emily Richards went close again as she struck a sweet free-kick that rattled the crossbar and the ball was eventually cleared away.

Met went into the break with a two-nil lead as they dominated the early stages as Port Talbot Town Ladies only opportunity coming from a Courtney – Thomas crossbar strike.

Met kicked off the second half in the same way they started the first as Emily Allen fired a shot into the top right corner.

Jessie Taylor was unfortunate for the visitors. She was one on one with the goalkeeper, but Lucy Finch denied any opportunity as she slid in from nowhere to prevent a Port Talbot goal.

Since her return, Allen has helped the attacking line of Met as she delivered a dangerous ball to the back post with recently subbed on Shannon Evans heading wide.

Emily Allen turned from creator to sharpshooter as she grabbed herself a second goal, firing from just outside of the box into the bottom left corner.

An opportunity for Erin Murray to grab a hattrick came as she fired a half volley effort over the crossbar from a Shannon Evans delivery.

Emily Allen delivered a ball into the path of Elianna Chavez who managed to hold her ground as her effort went into the bottom right corner to grab the fifth goal of the game for the home side.

Shannon Evans caused danger as a substitute as her curling shot, destined for the bottom corner, was saved by Roberts.

The save fell into the path of Amy Long who capitalised and fired into an empty net.

Chavez was close to grabbing a second for her on the day as she struck a brilliant effort into the bottom left corner, but it was matched with a great save from Roberts.
