Swansea University 1-6 Abergavenny Women: Six of the best for Pennies in Adran Trophy opener

Abergavenny cruised to a 6-1 victory away to Swansea University in the Adran Trophy South.

Goals from Lauren Boyd, Maxine Mudge, Ceri Hudson, Lyndsey Davies, and Kate Jeremiah were enough to give the visitors the visitors.

Isabel King bagged one for Swansea on a difficult afternoon for the Students.

The visitors started the game off the stronger and took the lead early on. Very nice play outside the area saw the ball fall to Lyndsey Davies who curled the ball in the second minute and the keeper stood no chance.

The visitors continued to dominate and they were rewarded as a ball from the right-hand side was met by Maxine Mudge who finished neatly.

The Students reacted well to going two-down. Abergavenny goalkeeper Chalotte Hastings came out to try and claim a long ball but didn’t quite get there in time. Isabel King got to the ball first and it rolled the ball into the net, giving the hosts a lifeline.

Shortly after, the visitors regained their two-goal advantage thanks to a lovely effort from Kate Jeremiah. The winger curled it past the keeper.

Abergavenny then got themselves another goal from a wonder strike from Ceri Hudson. The captain picked up the ball in her own half, striking perfectly into the top left hand corner.

Swansea then had some nice possession of the ball and a chance fall for Becky Reed, but her shot went wide of the target.

Just before half-time, the visitors played some magical stuff. The ball came to Kate Jeremiah on the right, who delivered a low cross into the box and it was an easy tap in for Maxine Mudge as she claimed her second of the afternoon.

Abergavenny started off the second half just like they did in the first. The ball fell to Kate Jeremiah on the left, and her cross was met by Lauren Boyd who gave the side their sixth.

The in-form visitors then picked up the ball in their own half, Atkins skipped past a few defenders but her shot didn’t really bother Jo Nowak-Allum.

The Pennies were then just closing the game out really and they created another chance, it fell to Caitlan Davies on the edge of the area but the substitutions shot went wide.

They were no big chances in the final part of the game and the visitors claimed a comfortable 6-1 win in the opening game of the Adran Trophy.
