Corwen FC have been dealt after they were made to move from their War Memorial Park home to groundshare at Bala Town F.C’s Maes Tegid stadium.
Corwen announced on their website this week that after 40 years, they have been told they are unable to continue playing at The War Memorial Park and will be playing their seven home fixtures at Maes Tegid.
The statement stated “It is with great regret that after over 40 years of Corwen Football Club recognising The War Memorial Park as its home ground, we can no longer host games at the park. Despite our best endeavours to reach accommodation with the Memorial Park/Town Council, the new restricted facilities that are now offered to the club fail to meet the FAW standards.
“As such the team will play its next seven home games at Maes Tegid, the home of Bala Town FC to give time for the club to consider its future. We deeply regret this decision and the loss of an amenity to the town.”
Corwen Town Council own the Pavilion building and changing rooms which currently do not met the FAW’s tier three current standards for facilities at football stadium.
A petition has been launched on social media in support of the Club to continue playing at War Memorial Park with over 500 signatures already showing their support.
After the news, Wales’ Harry Wilson, who hails from Corwen expressed his sadness at the decision on social media.
“It is sad to hear that my hometown club Corwen have been forced to move their games away from ‘The Rec’ due to matters beyond their control,” said the 24-year-old.
“I have enjoyed going to watch the team play there throughout my life and I hope it isn’t too long until I can do so again.”
