Penybont 2-1 Haverfordwest County: Strong second-half showing secures three points for Bont

Penybont got back to winning ways with a 2-1 victory over Haverfordwest County at the SDM Glass Stadium.
After a goalless first-half, Nathan Wood’s superb strike, along with Billy Borge’s goal secured all three points for the hosts.
Alhagi Touray Sisay gave the Bluebirds hope with a late header, but it wasn’t enough to mount a dramatic comeback.
Rhys Griffiths’ side record their second league win of the season and rise to seventh in the table with an impressive second-half showing.
Haverfordwest’s unbeaten run of five games in all competitions is brought to an end with the Bluebirds now in tenth place.
The contest’s start was cagey with no chances being created for either side, as the defences came out on top in the early stages.
Penybont had a sight of goal when Kane Owen’s shrewd throw-in set up Lewis Harling to strike from the edge of the box, only for the midfielder to fire narrowly wide.
A positive spell late in the first half saw Haverfordwest County create two opportunities. Elliot Scotcher fired over the bar with a free-kick from distance, before Jack Wilson was found free on the left, only for his low cross to evade everyone in the box.

The final chance of the opening period fell for Bont however, as Keane Watts’ delivery from the right was headed wide of the post by Sam Snaith, ensuring the scores were level at the break.
Griffiths’ men started the second-half brightly, as winger Watts beat the offside trap, but fired wide of Wojciech Gajda’s near post.
Bont had a huge chance to take the lead shortly after, with James Waite’s superb cross headed onto the post by centre-back Borge.
The hosts were rewarded for their positive start to the second period, as they broke the deadlock in the 53rdminute.
The ball fell kindly to winger Wood on the edge of the box, who struck brilliantly into the bottom corner to give Bont the lead.
Griffiths’ side had their tails up with their one-goal advantage and went close to doubling the lead, as Watts headed back across goal to Snaith, who couldn’t quite convert at the back post.
Bont weren’t to be denied however, as they netted a second goal in the 74th minute, with a corner dropping to Borge to tap home for his hometown club.
Both sides had chances in the dying minutes, as Touray Sisay rose highest from a corner to head at goal and force a brilliant save out of Ashley Morris.
Penybont counter-attacked quickly and in numbers, with the move eventually finding Waite in the box, whose effort hit the woodwork.
The Bluebirds gave themselves hope late-on, as Touray Sisay headed home in added time, but it wasn’t enough to mount a comeback.
After an impressive second-half showing, Bont got back to winning ways thanks to goals from Wood and Borge.
It’s Welsh Cup action next week for Penybont, as they host Caernarfon Town, while Haverfordwest County welcome Bala Town.
