Cefn Druids 0-1 Aberystwyth Town: Jenkins header edges out Ancients
Cefn Druids remain winless after a 1-0 home defeat to Aberystwyth Town at The Rock.
Lee Jenkins got the games only goal for Aberystwyth before the break. Raul Correia missed a second half penalty.
In a game dubbed a six pointer at the bottom of the JD Cymru Premier Aberystwyth looked to take the game to Druids. The home side seemed happy to counter-attack and neither side were creating real opportunities. Aber made use of Jack Thorn’s long throws throughout the match forcing Druids into clearing long. Aberystwyth went in ahead at the break and were the better side throughout the match. Cefn Druids were quick when they did break but lacked the final pass in the attacking third and rarely troubled Gregor Zabret.
Cefn Druids are still looking for a first win of the season and now find themselves five points behind Aberystwyth. Aber stay in eleventh place but have closed the gap on Haverfordwest to two points.
The game started with Josef Faux making a good run down the wing for Druids winning them a corner. The corner to the near post was poor and gave Aber the chance to break.
Thomas Rimmer played a good ball to Harry Franklin on the wing. Franklin tried to get past Daniel Cabral but the 16 year old defender did well to stop him.
Druids could have had the lead as Zabret dropped Emmanuel Agyemang’s cross. Zabret was quick to regain control of the ball as Edge rushed in.
Liam Buckley put in a cross after making a run down the wing. His cross was deflected and fall to Agyemang who went for the overhead kick but he couldn’t connect well with the ball and its was easy for Zabret.
Alex Darlington’s corner saw the ball bounce back and fourth between both sets of players. Druids were able to clear but Aber got the ball back in the box. Ryan Neild came and claimed the ball as it was sent back in.
As Aber looked to go forward a late tackle from Phillip Mooney gave Aber a free kick in good position in the Druids half. Alex Darlington sent the ball into the box and Lee Jenkins rose highest to send a powerful header into the net after 34 minutes.
Just before the break Charley Edge put a free-kick to the near post, Zabret made the save and Agyemang could not put in the rebound.
Aber started the second half brightly and Correia found Steffan Davies who cut inside but saw his shot saved by Neild.
Harry Franklin took on a shot from distance that slipped under Neild and was looking to be crossing the line. The Druids keeper did well to quickly get a hand on the ball to keep the game at 1-0.
Franklin was pushed off the ball in the box by Baio and the referee give the visitors a penalty. Raul Correia stepped up to take it but sent high over the bar.
Edge played a good pass into the box behind the defence for Niall Flint, but Flint’s touch was heavy and the went though to the keeper.
Druids pushed forward in search of a equaliser as the game came to a close. Pavel Vieira, Daniel Cabral both had shots blocked. While Biao sent a shot from distance well wide.
