Wales international Hannah Cain has been ruled out until the end of the season after suffering an ACL injury during a behind closed doors friendly.

Leicester City boss Jonathan Morgan confirmed the injury ahead of his side’s Women’s Super League clash against Manchester City on Sunday.

Hannah Cain made her Cymru debut just last week, coming on as a substitute in front of a record crowd at the Cardiff City Stadium as Wales beat Estonia 4-0.

The former England youth international was first included in Gemma Grainger’s squad for World Cup Qualifiers against Kazakhstan and Estonia before having to withdraw through injury.

“Unfortunately, Hannah Cain is out for the rest of the season now,” said Morgan to the LCFC.

“Obviously we are there to wish her a speedy recovery and give her all the support she needs to get back to where she needs to be.

“For Hannah, it’s a big blow for her from a personal point of view. She’s had two really big injuries in two seasons. We just need to support her from a mental point of view as well as a physical point of view. She will come back much stronger and much better after it.”

This isn’t the first serious injury the 22-year-old has picked up during her young career, having joined Leicester from Everton in 2020 with a serious foot injury that left her questioning whether she could ever play football again.

Reacting to her injury, she posted on Twitter: “There doesn’t seem to be any words that can explain this feeling right now. It’s a very lonely place.

“One I am hoping I can come back from and be thriving once again. Thank you all for the messages and support. I will see you all soon.”
