Hannah Cain and Rachel Rowe miss out on Wales squad due to injury
Gemma Grainger has announced her squad for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Greece and France at the end of this month.
The squad sees three possible debutants in Poppy Soper, Morgan Rogers, and Chloe Williams. While Rachel Rowe and Hannah Cain miss out due to injuries.
Apart from the injuries, Grainger has a strong squad to choose from, including the newly announced NWSL MVP Jess Fishlock, who Grainger was full of praise for.
‘It epitomises who she is in terms of her hard work, her dedication … she’s worked incredibly hard throughout her career and to be named MVP of that league … she should be so so proud.
“To be named most valuable player of arguably the best league in the world with some of the best players, she should be so proud.
“To put it into context, she’s playing in a league with World Cup winners and Olympic gold medallists and she is the most valuable player.”
Grainger is also hoping that the new and younger players will fit into the core group of players and help push Wales on in the future.
‘We’re really getting a lens on the players and how we’re planning their development journeys. We’ve talked about the likes of Sophie, Jess but who are the next Sophie and Jess’?
That’s the question we’ve got to get ready for and we’re developing those players’
Wales will play Greece at Parc y Scarlets on Friday, November 26th and will then travel to Guingamp to face France on Tuesday, November 30th.
