Haverfordwest County 0-0 Bala Town: Stalemate in Bluebirds’ start to life without Wayne Jones

Managerless Haverfordwest County earned a point at the Bridge Meadow Stadium in a goalless draw with Bala Town.

It was just the second point the Bluebirds have picked up since the end of October but they remain in the relegation zone.

For Bala meanwhile, they have just one win in their last seven matches and are in sixth place.

Caretaker player-manager Jazz Richards with a goal-line clearance from Ollie Shannon was the only highlight of a first half that lacked quality.

Chris Venables setting up his strike partner and both will look back on perhaps why they chose to not strike the ball with the goal at their mercy.

At 0-0, it was a scoreline that summed up both sides’ ambition, neither having any quality with their final ball.

The second half wore a tad better, Shannon striking well for Bala and Wilson latching on to a peach of a Williams through ball, but having rounded goalkeeper Ramsey the ball ran away from him.

A niggly encounter wasn’t helped by referee Arwel Griffiths, whose seven yellow cards didn’t paint a picture as it was the tackles that were missed which frustrated players, the benches, and supporters alike.

With then minutes remaining, Williams drove at the heart of a retreating defence, his shot well saved by a sprawling Ramsey whose powerful hand away low to his right managed to deflect it away from the oncoming Fawcett.

Shannon had a second chance late on, Patten blocking his effort, a minute later Ramsey again saving the visitors with a fine save from Jones-Thomas’ right foot shot.

Sisay was tripped in the final seconds, by Spittle who was carded alongside Shannon who delayed the restart., the free-kick came to nothing and the dour encounter ended 0-0.
