The New Saints left a wet South Wales with three points after a 2-1 win over Barry Town at Jenner Park.

An early goal after four minutes from Daniel Redmond gave the visitors the lead at the break. Jordan Williams made it 2-0 after 63 minutes as Barry were coming back into the game. Barry soon got a goal on 70 minutes from Theo Wharton.

TNS remain top of the JD Cymru Premier with a 12 point lead over second placed Flint Town. Barry stay in eighth place three points behind sixth spot.

The New Saints got off to a flying start and took the lead early on with a stunning strike from Daniel Redmond. After a period of TNS pressure the ball dropped to Redmond who found the top corner leaving Barry keeper Mike Lewis no chance.

Lewis would soon be replaced as he suffered an injury off the ball and was replaced by Kelland Absalom. TNS soon tested the sub keeper as Danny Davies took a shot from the right forcing a good save.

Declan McManus got the ball in the box but his shot was just wide of the goal as TNS began to dominate the first half.

TNS made use of the whole pitch with their wide players hugging the touchline trying to stretch the compact Barry setup.

They kept the pressure on Barry and Absalom was called into action to save from Ben Clark after a good run by Clark.

Barry then had a good claim for a penalty turned down just before the break. Kayne McLaggon looked to be though on goal and brought down but the referee believed that McLaggon had dived.

TNS could have been two up early in the second half as Absalom missed the ball from a corner allowing Brobbel a free head at goal. Curtis McDonald did well to head off the line but then Jordan Williams had a chance in the box but Absalom was able to make the save.

Soon Barry were claiming for a penalty again as McLaggon went down in the box but again the referee did not award it.

Barry were staring to push TNS back and enjoying a good spell of the ball. Callum Sainty tried from distance but hit his shot wide of the target.

Just as Barry were looking like they could get back into the game TNS struck again. Jordan Williams hitting a curling shot on the turn that went in off the post.

Barry kept going and soon brought the gap back to one goal. A good ball over the top found McLaggon out on the right. Cutting inside McLaggon played the ball across the six yard box for Theo Wharton to tap in.

Barry could have been level moments later but Curtis McDonald could only direct his header at Paul Harrison.

The final stages of the game were back and fourth as both teams looked to get the next goal.

Ryan Brobbel hit a curling shot towards the bottom corner that was saved by Absalom at full stretch.

Declan McManus then forced a save from the Barry keeper with his shot from the edge of the box.

Marcus Day looked to find McLaggon with a cross but Paul Harrison was out well to claim the ball.

TNS were able to see out the game and take an important three points.
