Goytre United appoint Mark Pike on permanent basis

Goytre United have named their caretaker boss Mark Pike as their new first-team manager.

The Port Talbot club had been without a manager after Lee John and his assistant Dylan Blain joined Cymru South rivals Llanelli Town.

He had been in charge for the last two matches, losing 3-1 to Llanelli, as well as a 1-1 draw with Risca United.

Pike had joined the coaching staff at the club following his exit from Port Talbot Town, a club in which he was a long-term figure.

His previous experience at Victoria Road saw him lead Port Talbot to a 13th placed finish in the 2018/19 Welsh League, before earning promotion the year later after their demotion.

In a statement released by the club confirming his appointment, it read: “Goytre United are delighted to announce Mark Pike as Permanent Manager and Head Coach of our football club.

“Mark will oversee all footballing activities and work closely with existing Reserve, Youth and Junior coaches. He has an excellent football cv as a coach and mentor having worked for the FAW for many years.

“His vision and ambition matches all. It is a very exciting time for Goytre United Football Club with many ground, infrastructure and development projects to look forward to.

“We continue to build an ambitious and yet sustainable football club and at the same time compete with the very best.”
