Llantwit Major moved back into second spot in the JD Cymru South after a 3-0 win over Port Talbot Town.

Ben Cripps put Llantwit in front after 15 minutes but Port Talbot kept Llantwit at bay until the break. An own goal from Samual O’Sullivan made it 2-0 in the final quarter of the match and Josh Jones added a third a minute from time.

Karl Lewis’ men move back into second place in the table and close the gap on leaders Pontypridd to two points. Port Talbot remain bottom and are still looking for their first points of the season.

Port Talbot started brightly pressing the Llantwit players and not giving them time on the ball. Manny Maloney made an early run to the outside but Kyran Gardner did well to shield the ball out of play.

Maloney was soon involved again as went for a ball into the box with Llantwit keeper Jack Lansdown. Lansdown dropped the ball but Maloney was judged to have fouled him.

The pitch at Victoria Road was causing the ball to bobble about and made passing tricky. Llantwit struggled in the early exchanges to get their passing play going.

Kris Evans picked up a loose ball and turned away into space before spreading the ball wide to Rob Jones. Jones put in a cross right into the goal that James Donnelly had to tip over the bar.

From Nathan Jones’ corner, Llantwit took the lead. Sending the ball into the near post low, Ben Cripps was able to bundle the ball over the line.

Llantwit began to take control with Cripps hitting a shot into the side netting. This was followed quickly by a double chance as Cripps’ effort was cleared on the line. Then Josh Morgan saw his follow-up come back off the post.

Llantwit hit the woodwork again soon after when Cullen Kinsella’s effort came off the bar from a Thomas Walters free-kick.

It should have been 2-0 when Rob Jones met a good ball across the box. Having just the keeper to beat Jones’ low effort was saved by the legs of Donnelly.

In the second-half Llantwit had a second ruled out for offside as Ben Cripps turned in Rob Jones’ cross. The assistant had a flag up and the goal was not given.

Walters then had a great chance with a close-range shot but it was well saved by the Port Talbot goalkeeper.

Llantwit did soon get their second goal but it came from mix-up at the back. As the ball dropped into the Port Talbot box Samual O’Sullivan attempted to play it back to Donnelly but the keeper was coming out the ball went past him into the net.

Josh Jones added a third in the last minute. Making a run down the right he cut into the box and smashed a shot past Donnelly.

It could have been four in added time as Donnelly had to make a double save. First stopping Josh Jones’ effort, Donnelly was quick to stop Conner Goldsworthy’s follow-up from close range.
