David Lyon’s 95th minute winning goal secured all three points for Taff’s Well in a dramatic final minute.

Luke Bowen thought he had rescued a point for The Reds with a late equaliser before Lyon struck to give Taff’s Well the win.

After a goalless first half, Jamie Owen put the host ahead in the 48th minute. As the game entered the fifth minute of added time Luke Bowen levelled the game and looked like he saved a point for his team. Taff’s Well weren’t to be denied victory and went straight to the other end of the pitch and retook the lead though Lyon.

Taff’s Well move to three points behind Carmarthen Town in 8th place. Briton Ferry miss out on the chance to close the gap on leaders Pontypridd. They could drop down to third if Llantwit Major win their game in hand.

In the early stages, the captain Joseph Shepherd tried an early shot at goal but his effort went straight at Conah McFenton.

The hosts had a free-kick just outside the box which Jamie Owen struck at goal. Owen hit his effort high and it went over the bar.

After a bright start by the home side Briton Ferry started to control the ball and create chances to take the lead. Playing the ball out to the right for Corey Hurford, who was finding lots of space. Hurford cut inside and had a shot but it was blocked.

Soon after Ferry worked the ball from the left side and found Hurford in the box. Hitting the ball first time on the volley Hurford’s effort looked to be going in before coming back out off the post.

Ferry continued to try and get the opening goal with Luke Bowen seeing one shot go over the bar and then a header saved.

As the half wore on The Wellmen came back into the game. From Lloyd Toghill’s long throw Scott Hillman’s header was blocked as was Ethan Cann’s follow-upshot.

Ethan Cann forced McFenton into a good save towards the end of the half. Turning well in the box his low drive was well saved by the Briton Ferry keeper.

Soon after David Lyon could have scored when his close-range effort flashed across the goal.

The hosts started the second half better as they had ended the first. A free-kick was sent towards the back post where it found Jamie Owen running in. Owen hit the ball across and found the net to give Taffs Well the lead.

It could have been two as Cann’s good work won his side a corner. From the corner, Jamie Owen headed just wide.

Ferry pushed and pushed in search of an equaliser but Taff’s Well were organised and determined. Mark Jones headed wide twice and Scott Hillman was in inspired form as he cleared everything that came his way.

Luke Bowen set up Tyler Brock for a shooting chance in the box but Hillman put in a well-timed tackle to stop his effort and then cleared.

As the game fell in to the latter stages, Ferry found a goal five minutes into added time. The ball was sent towards the back post where Bowen came flying in to put the ball in for a late equaliser.

The drama didn’t end there as Taffs Well were not settling for a point. Getting the ball forward quickly it fell to Lyon in the box. Bringing the ball down well, Lyon was able to turn away from his marker. He then fired a shot past McFenton to win the game.
