Port Talbot Town 1-0 Cascade YC: Vicky Beddows finds the net in fog at Victoria Road

Vicky Beddows got the winning goal for Port Talbot in extremely foggy conditions at Victoria Road.

Scoring the only goal of the game on 77 minutes, Beddows sends Port Talbot into the next round of the Adran Trophy.

A thick fog had settled across the ground prior to kick off and became worse as the game wore on. Both sides battled hard but neither ever really gained control of the game. The first half saw half chances for both sides but nothing to trouble either keeper. The second half was similar as the conditions worsened and one goal was always likely to win the game.

Port Talbot can look forward to the next round while Cascade will have to concentrate on their push for promotion to the Adran Premier.


Coryn Sexton tried to break down the right side early on but Charli Carroll was able to shepherd the ball out of play.

A cross into the box by Port Talbot was met by Sexton who headed at goal. Sexton’s header was easy for Hollie Williams in goal.

Annaliese Lewis made a good run getting past three Port Talbot players to get herself into the box. She was unable to create a shooting chance as the ball run to Charley Jones. Jones who was making her senior debut for Port Talbot in this game and is normally an outfield player but was called up from the Under 19’s in the absence of Emily Roberts.

Both sides were trying to turn the foggy conditions to their advantage as Lewis tried a long range effort for Cascade. Vicky Beddows also tried for Port Talbot but neither effort would trouble the keepers.

Caitlin Owen sent a free kick into the near post looking to find Terri Beddows. Beddows though could not direct the ball goal wards.

Lewis was able to break down the right again and put a ball into the box. It was part cleared but fell to Abbie Davies who shot wide.

Cascade had a great chance to take the lead early in the second half. A good ball into Lewis allowed her to put the ball across the box. Abbie Davies got on to the ball but put her shot wide of the goal.

Vicky Beddows tired from distance again hoping to catch out Williams but her shot was straight at the Cascade keeper.

Port Talbot worked the ball across the pitch and found Jess Denscombe in space in the box. Denscombe hit a shot but it was well saved by Williams.

Vicky Beddows persistent paid off in the 77th minute as her long range shot found the net. The shot was close to Williams but went under her body.

Cascade had a great chance to level the game as they made a quick counter attack. Working the ball out to right side they found Carroll running into the box. She hit a low strike that Jones saved well to stop a goal.

Chrystalla Moreton went past two Port Talbot players and found space in the box to shot. Her low shot was again saved by Jones.
